Palms - Greer Smith

“The story behind this piece is the process of big life transitions. I moved back to the United States from Hong Kong during the early days of the pandemic, and it wasn’t a very smooth transition. We ended up unexpectedly in South Carolina—a place that I had never been before, and stayed there for a year due to unforeseen circumstances,” says artist Greer Howland Smith. “The one thing that connected the transition were the palm trees, which are both in South Carolina and Hong Kong, and nature in general.”

“This artwork reminds me to be grateful for shelter and nature. This was an intuitive painting and I painted it over the course of a week while I was helping my children through Zoom school. I hope it will serve as a reminder for others to reflect on their home and surrounding environments.”
