I can't rely on my memories - Sharon Blance
The image titles are quotes taken from the movie Blade Runner. I've had a lot of people say my Hong Kong Neon pictures remind them of the aesthetic of Blade Runner, which I wasn't thinking about at the time I made the photographs, but am happy to see that influence come out in the work. It's also one of my favourite movies, with themes about memory, nostalgia, the passing of time, and technology becoming obsolete and being 'retired' - I find interesting parallels with these themes to the neon landscape of Hong Kong which is rapidly disappearing and becoming part of an older 'golden' age, preserved by the mutable vessel of human memory.
